Household Goods Made with Stone

In the past, people from Jeju raised black pigs at home. A “doldogori” is a feed trough placed inside a pigpen. They were made from cut stone so that they wouldn’t fall over even if the pigs pushed them with their snouts or stepped on them. Next to it is a dolhwaro (brazier made from stone) and bori-tong, a container which was used to soak barley in water before it was ground. Next to that is a frame which was used for squeezing seeds to produce oil. This device is constructed so that after sesame or perilla seeds were roasted and placed on the bottom stone, the upper stone could be pressed down with enough pressure to make oil flow out through the grooves.
