Artifacts from Yongjang-seong Fortress Site

In June of 1270, when Goryeo decided to move its capital to Gaegyeong after surrendering to the Mongol Yuan Dynasty, Sambyeolcho troops resisted the decision and revolted against the Goryeo government. Moving from Gangwha to Jindo Island in the southwest, the Sambyeolcho brought nearby islands and coastal regions under their domain and proclaimed king On as the king of their maritime kingdom. The roof tiles with engravings of lotus and fantastic monsters are remnants of this short-lived kingdom’s Yongjang-seong Fortress on Jindo Island.
