Korean-type Bronze Dagger
This bronze dagger with a slender blade is a “Korean-type bronze dagger” that was discovered at the site of Jongdal-ri, in Gujwa-eup, Jeju City. Such “Korean-type bronze daggers” are characterized by their long and slender blades with straight edges and long pointed tips. A distinctive characteristic of the Korean-type bronze dagger is the way in which the blade and hilt were first cast separately and then later assembled. Bronze was not produced locally on Jeju Island and so such a bronze dagger would have been a highly valuable item owned by only a few members of society. This particular bronze dagger was buried with an individual of great power who resided on Jeju Island around the 4th century BCE.
