Opening the Exhibition
The National Museum of Jeju presents the Special Exhibition "A Great Synthesis of Art and Scholarship: Painting and Calligraphy of Kim Jeong-hui" as the year 2006 is the 150th anniversary of his death.
Kim Jeong-hui is the great scholar and artist of the late Joseon Dynasty. Though he is generally known as a calligrapher with his unique calligraphic style, "Chusache," Kim Jeong-hui was the representative intellectual of the 19th century East Asia bequeathing outstanding accomplishments in various fields such as epigraphy, Chinese classics, Buddhism, poetry and prose, painting and criticism as well as calligraphy.
Moreover, Kim Jeong-hui was an intellectual who found out the answers by the thorough scholastic and artistic pursuit of the origin, and furthermore, he could adapt his findings to the reality. Such attitude to study and art of him gave birth to the masterpieces of "scholarship and artistry conjoined."
