Jeju National Museum opened on June 15 , 2001. It is an archaeology and history museum located on the beautiful island of Jeju, which aims to be a free international city in the 21st century.
Jeju is Korea¡¯s largest island which lies to the south of the peninsula. It boasts a long history and unique traditional culture from the prehistoric age to the present day. It has played an instrumental part in the cultural exchange in Northeast Asia through the centuries as it is on the sea-lanes linking China, Japan, Okinawa, Taiwan, and other countries.
Jeju National Museum presents the unique history and culture of Jeju in one place. On display are artifacts and relics excavated from historic sites all over Jeju and objects of historic value from other regions. As a cultural center charged with the mission of maintaining and creating the culture of Jeju in the future, the Museum will faithfully fulfill its role as an open cultural space together with visitors.
